Social Studies

Middle School

Biblical Perspective: The study of historical events and social studies gives us insights into the meaning of God’s plan and purpose through the ages. We see how He has been active throughout history; intervening in it as He wills. We learn how successes and failures in moral order impact cultures and the rise and fall of nations. The Bible teaches us to engage in our own culture, the cultures of the world, and to participate in the rights we have as citizens of our nation.

The social studies program focuses on world history and geography in grades six and seven. Students evaluate why civilizations developed where and when they did, and the factors contributing to their rise and fall. Various cultures are studied, with an emphasis on their enduring contributions to our contemporary world. Students in grade eight study the development of America’s democratic institution and our growth as a country. Connections are made between the rise of industrialization and the social and economic systems of today. The culminating event of the 8th grade year is the east coast trip in the spring, which has a specifically historical focus.

Social Studies

The social studies program in Kindergarten focuses on the various holidays, discussed from a Christian perspective and celebrating our cultural diversity. For students in grades 1-5, historical events are presented within a chronological and geographical context. They learn about the significant people, places and events that have shaped California and the entire United States. It is written to align with the state standards. The curriculum is enriched with various field trips, programs and special days that help to make the subject come alive and memorable.
