RENAISSANCE CLUB
Prior Offerings

To give you a sense of the breadth of instruction, the following is a list of prior Renaissance Club offerings beginning September 28, 2018

Aerospace Engineering - UP, UP, and Away!
During our Aerospace Engineering program, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine a variety of flying machines. They construct a shock absorbing system designed to protect two marshmallow astronauts in a lunar vehicle, create their own air-powered rockets, and assemble a hot air balloon model that actually takes flight!

Odyssey of the Mind
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. At Milpitas Christian School (MCS), we offer it to the gifted students in grades 3 through 5. The Odyssey of the Mind teaches students to learn creative problem-solving methods while having fun in the process. By tapping into creativity, and through encouraging imaginative paths to problem-solving, students learn skills that will provide them with the ability to solve problems -- great and small -- for a lifetime.
Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. At MCS, once the teams are formed, they will choose the problems they want to solve. The teams then bring their solutions to competition on the local, and possibly the state and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.
As there is much to do to prepare the team, we have learned via past years that there is never enough time scheduled to get everything done. Therefore, we have designated this as a 3-term Renaissance Club class. If your child wants to join, he or she MUST commit to the 3 terms, AND to being present for the competition (usually the last Saturday of February or the first Saturday of March).
If you wish to find out more about the program, please feel free to contact Mrs. Kathy Yao, Learning Lab Director, at kyao@milpitaschristian.org or call her at (408) 945-6530, ext. 11401.
